Dead Dolphin
Pinn when first presented with
the shot
that yage had snapped in Sri Lanka commented that it symbolised the
death
of ambient - yage looked up with a faint sneer as Pinn persisted with his interpretation - since the dolphin had become a strongly iconic symbol of ambience the shot strongly suggested it's demise, the carcass thrown over the back of a bike and carried off like a piece of baggage - moreover the bike moved in the opposite direction receding into the distance - Yage didn't comment - he looked thoughtful for a second enjoying the memory of the moment when the Sri lankan personal guide had pointed the spectacle to him from the front of the van with the words
you want foto-graphy
- he hadn't been that inspired immediately - he'd become suspicious of what his guide considered good 'foto-graphy' and it was his last day after a month spent endlessly shooting film around Sri Lanka ,the sun through the window of the van making him feel increasingly "dosy" - it was 6 in the morning and quite frankly he couldn't care less about 'foto-graphy' - on following the guide's finger pointed through the front window he'd sat bolt upright however - fumbled with the settings and shot in a
blur
the picture now being analysed by Pinn - the faint warmth yage felt from the recollection passed like a transitory
texture
across his brain - to Pinn he looked merely dismissive of his analysis and annoyed he left the room for a piss.
