the cocteau twins were in heavy disrepair-liz and robin were splitting-i began to have long giggly phone calls with Liz-we'd sent her a track lifeforms that had been offered in its original form (and refused by j+p) at this time a lot of people were after her-she told me she'd turned down massive attack cos she didn't like the new album(later to be protection) finally it came together-i headed down Twickenham way to their studio-a huge rambling studio on the river owned by pete townsend-we'd already sent the dat so that initial work could be done before my arrival-at this time our dat machine was fuckin up leaving these huge spikey glitches all over tracks -the engineer laid the whole 20 mins down without batting a lid-when i arrived he acted surprised -'i thought they were some of your way out samples'
