More
about Daft Punk
The men
behind Daft Punk, Thomas bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo,
met at school and whilst still at the tender age of 14, they decided
to form a band. Their band was named Darlin and didn't surface until
1992. However, a record was soon relelased on the Duophonic label.
In 1993,
the band had begun their metamorphosis into what we now know as Daft
Punk and after working with the Scottish label, Soma Records, 'New Wave'
was released in 1994.,p> 1995 saw the release of 'Da Funk! Rollin' Scratchin'
which was followed by a Eurpoean tour that encompassed approximately
40 venues in areas such as the UK, Belgium and France.
Daft Punk
began work on developing their debut album in 1996. After a series of
live dates in the US and an appearance at Tribal Gathering in London,
the album was complete and in 1997, Daft Punk's spectacular debut album,
Homework, was released thorugh Virgin. The album went on to achieve
international success, selling a staggering two million copies worldwide.
Throughout
this time, Daft Punk's identities have remained a mystery as the French
duo always appear in public in disguise. Yet, they remain one of the
most well respected dance acts in the industry and are renowned for
their innovative visual and artistic work. Daft Punk's videos, which
credit directors such as Spike Jonze and Michael Gondry, have won several
prestigious awards.
The success
has continued with the long awaited single from their second album,
Discovery. The catchy disco sounding tune 'One More Time' was released
in November 2000 and immediately stormed into the European charts at
number one and the UK charts at number two. Continuing the momentum
it has reached number one in the US dance charts, Canadian charts and
Japanese charts.
