Chemicals Unleash a Brave New World

2001 passed without much noise from the Chemical Brothers. After 18 months locked in a South London studio, emerging occasionally to test out new tracks on unsuspecting club audiences both here and abroad, Tom and Ed offered up a low-key single, 'It Began in Afrika'. The record was a thunderous tribal techno workout, an obnoxious hurricane of beats and bleeps that entered the top 10 like some kind of demented uninvited guest. Although 'Afrika' was a precursor to 'Come With Us' it gave very little indication of what was to come.

'Come With Us' seems more of a statement of intent than ever, relying less on collaborations and guest appearances and more on warping psychedelic cinemascope music. First single proper, 'Star Guitar', comes on like a modernist take on many a bygone Balearic anthem, it¼s sunshine bleached guitar lines twisting around an insisting, pulsating rhythm track. 'Pioneer Skies' starts as a 21st Century take on late sixties British psychedelic sound before ending up sounding like Pete Townsend & Keith Moon shoehorned into Jason Pierce¼s spacesuit. Elsewhere, „Denmark¾ is a furious mutant disco workout, while 'Hoops' is a glorious melting pot of West Coast harmonies, guitar scales & pulsing electro beats. The album climaxes with 'The Test', where Richard Ashcroft stares into the void and rails against a soaring squall of beats and swelling noise ... the words and music of men possessed.

At times, 'Come With Us' features a sound akin to psychedelic folk, at others it sounds like one of the most futuristic albums ever made; an optimistic, brave new world circumnavigated in just under an hour of music. 'Come With Us' is due for release on 28th January 2002.

STAR GUITAR SINGLE

Following the overwhelming success of "It Began In Afrika," we proudly announce the follow-up single from The Chemical Brothers, "Star Guitar." Warm, blissful and thumping, "Star Guitar" ingenuously mixes a 4-on-the-floor rhythm with an incredibly melodic hook and a swirling vocal break. Tom and Ed have yet again delivered the goods...intoxicating and soaring, "Star Guitar" is set to be the anthem for the new year.

Star Guitar is released as a CD single and Commercial 12" on January 14 and January 28th respectively, and will feature standout mixes by Pete Heller. Heller's Expanded Mix is a 9-minute epic journey, tapping into the song's spirit and adding a progressive and glowing energy to the already loved-up track. The spanking new "Base 6" once again reminds us that there is no such thing as a Chemical Brothers b-side. A dubbed-out groove that drops acid bass lines, 70's style horns, old-school percussion and scratching "Base 6" finds The Chemical Brothers pushing the envelope once again.

Only a few acetates have been leaked to the creme de la creme of international DJ talent, including Danny Tenaglia, Paul Oakenfold, Jason Bentley, Pete Tong, Sasha, Francois K, Little Louie Vega, Liquid Todd and Nick Hardcourt -- early reaction has been amazing.
